Paper Quota Problem on Campus:
As you all know, talk has been floating around campus about how they are going to enforce a new paper quota. Originally it had been set at around 500 sheets per student. Now SGA has raised it to 1500. I think that while I don't use 1500 I still think it is good for most of the students who DO print a lot of stuff that is student related.
On the one hand, printing is killing our environment one step at a time. On the Herald's website, students ask why teachers just won't accept emails of the papers?
Simply put, students are dirty liars. I, myself, have told a teacher I emailed a paper when I clearly did not and so we blamed the lack of email on technical difficulties. So who is to say that others would not do that as well? Then there is the age old problem of students sending papers in the wrong format (docx vs doc for Word users). Docx is for the newer versions of microsoft word. Doc is for the older. A lot of people don't know the difference and so when they send something to a teacher, the teacher can't open it. Result? F. Also, there is the whole thing where some students don't know how to attach something to an email. They will copy and paste the report right in the email itself. This is also annoying to teachers. Then lastly, there are the students who really DO get screwed by the internet and their email doesn't get through.
Another argument: Teachers should teach the students how to properly send a document via email. My response? Why should teachers have to take up their classtime teaching students something that they A. should already know B. isn't a part of the particular teacher's ciriculm (sp?) C. would take up time in the classroom and D. could be easily solved by a student just printing out their paper instead?
My solution to ALL of this?
Have a freaking computers 101 class. It drives me insane that there are people who don't know how to use computers and do simple things like save something to a different format or attach a file to an email. Students blame Macs for their problems which is also a stupid argument. They just aren't taking the time to learn to use one. If technology is around you 24/7, learn how to use it. A class on how to use computers would be a very wise decision for Western. Teach the students who don't know how to do things to do them. Give other students some type of general education credit. I dunno.
Honestly I feel that there is no given solution to the paper quota crisis on campus. Students who want more paper abuse the privlage (sp?). Students who want to email their papers don't know how to do it half the time. Students who want to use blackboard STILL don't know how to use it half the time. Heck I know teachers that don't know how to use blackboard. But the simple fact is that if people knew how to use computers properly and/or they would stop printing out gaming guides in Mass Media, we wouldn't be having this problem now would we?

Website :O!
So it's about freaking time I figured out how to make a website! After a long and tedious learning process with Dreamweaver, I finally finished my personal website. It's not all I want it to be but hey--it works. It showcases some of my favorite works of art (Minus the Digital Video one).
But most of all--it gave me more of a clear understanding as to how to make a website in the first place. Let's just hope I retain it all lol! But fo real real, check it out when you get the chance. It's linked to this blog so no doubt people will be coming to read this el blog-o soon enough.
Enjoy :)

OMG!
So this semester FLEW by. No more cartoons/comics until next semester (if I'm the cartoonist still which I sure hope I am!) But anyway, I had a nice fun semester. I hope next will be just as awesome :3!
So here are my last two cartoons of the semester. Keep in mind that these are just my last two NEWSPAPER cartoons. I'll do other ones, just probably not Bob and Sam or whatever. Hah :)

First Blog :O!
So thus far in my search to create a professional blog, Blogger has prove to be the easiest of them all. Well so I'm going to explain what I wanna do in here:
Mainly, this is just to keep people updated with my art, my life, and other things. I won't be posting anything like...compelling, super intelligent, or otherwise provoking on this blog so don't come on here expecting that I'll be one of those people who blog for a living.
Thanks for listening :)

About Me
- Annie Erskine
- Let's see--where to begin? Well, my name is Annie Erskine. I'm 19 years old, a student at Western Kentucky University (WKU) majoring in Graphic Design, an artist, computer nerd, writer, and that's about it lol. I'm pretty laid back to say the least. To be honest, I'm more of the type of gal that enjoys chilling at home, watching a movie, playing computer, reading comics, etc rather than going out and spending too much money on clothes or my nails. I go to church at Crossland Community Church (nondenominational Christian church), I have three siblings (one of which is preggers :D!), three dogs, two parents, one car, and a lot of things on my to do list that have yet to be done. I'm the cartoonist of the College Heights Herald (the college paper) and have won awards for my editorial cartoons and my comic strip "Annie's Outlook" otherwise known as Bob and Sam. I'm also illustrating a comic book that will try and help elementary students appreciate math more because Lord knows I don't appreciate it lol. Anyway...yeah...enjoy :)!
